She had asked a bunch of times to go to Build-A-Bear for one of their Valentine's Day and get their seasonal ladybug.  She had the crankies for a week or so previously (I think it was a cold she wound up having plus a growth spurt, which always makes her grouchy), but she has been great for me (mostly) for the past week or so, and she's been good about our trips to the library and ice cream, so I thought we'd give it a shot.  I made it very clear to her going in that she needed to listen, to stay near me, that the bear was the ONLY present she was getting this trip, and if she gave me a hard time, I would give her ladybug away to some other little girl who listened to her mother.

Let me tell you, the whole thing went great.  We went pretty much right after she got home from school, and that early on a Tuesday, the place was empty and the mall wasn't crowded.  I don't think she had understood the whole building the bear concept, but she knew which one she wanted, she chose a sound for it (it says "I love you" when you squeeze its hand), she listened fairly well, and there were no tantrums anywhere.  Then we had time to kill before her gym class, so we went on the carousel (and she waited patiently through a visit to the cash machine, even when it meant backtracking from the carousel because I realised late I didn't have the cash on me), and even got her french fries at the Wendy's in the food court.  She held my hand, was worlds of affectionate, and I couldn't have been prouder.  She was also good at gym, though a glitch did come toward the end of the class when I think she overheard me saying we had to stop going to Gymboree because Gracie kept taking her clothes off - I didn't think she heard me, but she must've done, because she went into the bathroom and then came out naked and streaked across the room.  I think she was just making a point, because she got back into her clothes with no problem, and there wasn't even a fuss when it was time to leave.

She's been super-adorable since we've been home, and we are now watching Robin Hood, at her request.  I also spoke to the airlines in preparation for our trip to Florida, and they said getting a gate pass so my mom can help us wouldn't be a problem at all.  AND, I also spoke to the music teacher at her school, and me and my ukelele get to go in and serenade classrooms for Valentine's Day (and stay for the dance).  I'm changing "Those Magic Changes" to "Valentine Awesome", and hopefully I'll have "The Hero of Canton" up to par so I can do something with that too.  The music teacher will email me a list of the classrooms I can visit along with the names of the kids in each, so I can work their names in.  I'm a little terrified, since I really don't play that well, but I'm sure this will be a kind audience, good practise for me, and it will keep me from sitting around on Valentine's Day being bummed.  All good things.

Has everyone seen and appreciated K-9?  I am beyond pleased with him, and I seriously want to bring him places with me just for fun, but I think he will be wasted on most of my neighbourhood.  I had actually toyed with the idea of making him a purse, since he can be worn like one, but he needed some stuffing-type stuff inside so he didn't get collapse-y.  I'm thinking I might try to make a Dalek next, but I am putting off going to the craft store because my fingers need a break and I need to save them for ukelele practise.
