May I just state right off the bat that Gracie's teacher (henceforth known as Captain Outstanding) and half the TAs (henceforth to be known as his backup group, The Awesom-ettes) follow Gracie's Twitter, and how much I worship this?  Fabulous.

Anyway.  Meeting went great, despite my being late for it - although for a good reason, Gracie was happy to get in the car to go right after getting off the school bus, but then decided she had to go to the bathroom, let me know, and THEN got back in the car.  She happily played on the computer in the classroom the whole time, which is apparently her favourite thing, at least this week.  We talked about the progress she has been making and the goals in her IEP that she has been meeting (apparently very quickly), and they had some advice for me on ways to encourage her at home.  Mostly it is language, and we have started it already - me prompting her to use whole sentences, not just communicate using one or two words to get her point across.  For the benefit of anyone who might be spending time with Gracie, the gist is, spell everything out, language-wise, just to get her used to using more words.  She has the words, she is just lazy about using them.  Captain Outstanding (to whom I think I owe apologies for destroying his view of Disney's Beauty and the Beast - but honestly, does the prince's castle have any actual furniture? Or did they have to make an emergency trip to Ikea once the curse got lifted? Sorry) gave examples of conversations they have, language they use, and then we shared "Gracie is adorable" stories, which could've gone on all night.

She has also been promoted in the Thanksgiving play - now she will be Snow White herself, and not Doc.  Screw a guy who goes through medical school only to become a miner anyway!  They showed me her dress.  I squealed.  [livejournal.com profile] unclebendragon , I have been told that it would be perfectly great for the Wicked Witch to have a dragon as a familiar, so save the date (it's the day before Thanksgiving).  I will dress up as a woodland creature of some kind, which is what the rest of the class who aren't dwarves will be doing.  I do have my Forest of Fear cat ears somewhere.

On the way out, she didn't want to leave and one of the TAs from another class was kindly enough to carry her out and wait with her while I got the car, since it was raining.  We have been working on expanding her sentences already, and she is mostly responding.  The whole thing left me with a good feeling, which is how most things involving this school are.  They always know Gracie and me whenever I call.  I also bumped into the social worker on the way out, and she said that they should be hearing soon about the respite care thing, which will be nice.

GO, TEAM GRACIE!!

I grinned hugely while reading this. YAY!

Also, re: Beauty and the Beast: they're also going to need a whole lot of tableware.

RIGHT?? And if you're the spoon the Beast eats with, do you get paid better?

give her a massive smooch from me. I miss you people <3

and also, I think it would be really awkward to be human again having been the Beast's spoon or like, bath towel or something. like, hi, I've been in your mouth. now I'm a person. that's... really sketchy.

That's really quite awesome. I am glad you like her school and that you both like and seem to respect the people she is interacting with on a daily basis -- that's hugely important. Well done you, school and of course Gracie!
