catching up with Adventure Girl
Jan. 15th, 2011 10:46 am Not gonna lie, it hasn't been an easy week. Due to a couple of glitches in her normal routine, Gracie went into pout-mode and stayed there til about Thursday night (Wednesday wasn't bad, she just wasn't terribly social). By the time she got home Thursday, however, the backswing had righted itself and she was her sunny self again, and she was an absolute jewel on Friday and most of this morning (slight disagreement going on right now on the virtue of a smore for breakfast - I say she can't have one, she objects). She spent much of the past few nights in my bed but wasn't any trouble, and this morning I actually got to go back to sleep for an hour after turning on the TV for her and giving her the iPad...she played, I slept, we snuggled. Good things.
Yesterday I got to go into the school for their daytime pyjama party - only because I pestered, it's not a thing parents usually go to, just an excuse to send the kids to school in their pjs. I didn't go to her classroom at all because it was being observed and they wanted to have Standard Gracie, not Gracie Showing Off Because Mama Is There. All I did was join them for the movie (Despicable Me), and she was happy to see me and sat in my lap and we looked doofy in our matching pjs and all was well. I was amazed at how well she behaved, didn't get fidgety for quite a bit of the new movie, and was very huggy and cute with not only me, but some of her favourite staff members as well, so I got to see Gracie being universally adored.
Then I went to meet with the new child psychologist (well, new to me - she had been on maternity leave), who was very nice and helpful and we discussed how we could work together on Ms Awesome, though she did say that it seemed like I was pretty on the ball with what I was doing and knew Gracie well, and made good choices for her, yay me. She said she would spent some time with both Gracie and her teacher to get to know her, but agreed that Gracie is definitely best when she knows what is expected of her and doesn't have too much new thrown at her, and that the routine we have seems to be working well - as further evidenced earlier this week, when we had those glitches and the difference in her behaviour really showed.
In non-Gracie news, I have been practising the ukelele and needlepointing TARDISes (though I took a break from those to make Gracie an Angry Bird, which makes her happy). My fingers are very sore, but it is fun. I miss making costumes for things and having places to wear them (cons, Xena Night, etc). I see people already talking about NYCC, but I could only go on the Friday while Gracie is at school, and it seems like everyone I know is either working the event (which I have been invited to do but can't commit to due to problematic babysitting), or going in a group I haven't been asked to join, and I don't want to just go on my own. Ah well...perhaps camp will provide me with an excuse to dress up as River Song (I think they have some sort of costume-y thing at least once), or SOMEONE will throw a S6 premiere party. Maybe I just feel like blond-ing up because I need a change...who knows. This winter is taking a lot out of me physically - no worries, I'm fine, but fine takes a bit more work than usual...tired, achy, isolated, and that SAD-related PMS-y feeling, which I combat with lots of D3 and ukelele practise, which usually helps.
