Who-dyssey part 1
Apr. 8th, 2011 03:34 pmI got no pictures. None. Lauren got a couple, but she was first in line and had a better camera. Oh well.
That said, all three of them are adorable and sweet and lovely. There wasn't really conversation - hell, there wasn't even eye contact - because we were ZOOMED through the line by B&N staff. Also, all three of them squealed a LOT over the TARDIS-coloured cat pins I made, and they put them on right away, and that made me happy. Matt didn't even really notice the keyring (though Karen squeed over it gratifyingly) because he was futzing with the pin, and then I was kicked out. Hardly the lingering, satisfying signing experience one accustomed to Gaiman signings gets spoiled by, but whatever. Pins were given, appreciated, and worn, and the keyring given to Matt had my phone number attached to it, what the hell. ;)
A funny bit was Lauren getting a DM from Neil, saying "do not scare anyone. Do not let Cat kiss anyone." My initial thought was CHALLENGE ACCEPTED, but there wasn't time, so now I am just entertained that he assumed this would be an option.
Met some SUPER-lovely people on line - we christened ourselves The Haters Club, after realising that no one in that group really liked Amy Pond at ALL, and they had had to listen to Pond-obsessed Lauren swoon about her since they got there at 2 AM. I passed around my TARDIS notebook and we made a list of Reasons We Dislike Amy Pond, just so they could get it out of their systems. We also started a one-line-apiece Doctor Who story in my notebook, which I will be continuing in the line on Monday and then putting online.
BBCA sent down a camera crew (one of the guys was VERY cute) and filmed all the tired people online, asking us silly questions which will probably never get aired (one girl, at my urging, when asked what she was really looking forward to about S6, said "Russell T Davies' complete lack of involvement"). I said a bunch of ditzy things, one sort of intelligent thing about how we like the Doctor because he makes being a nerd cool, and then when they caught me at the other end to ask me how I liked meeting everyone, all I said was "Matt Smith makes me swoony in my swoony place". Again, cutting room floor, I'm sure.
I'm thinking I have to go dressed to wait on the line on Monday. It's earlier than I had planned to need a costume and I don't have River's sonic yet, but I have my sweet rig from Eeldrytch, and that's the main thing to make it a costume. I'll probably bring a bandanna to cover up the gun with since it is a RAWTHER bad idea to wave a fake gun around in Manhattan, but the folk I met on the line were all very "yes, you should totally dress as River!" so I am encouraged enough - and anyway, without the gun belt, it just looks like a basic denim outfit. I wish I had that gold dress. Soon. *edit - aaaand this was how my day was made by someone I just met - I was messaging back and forth with one of the girls I met today. I asked her if she thought my River gear was acceptable. This is what she said. "Oh my god, are you kidding?! You look so good! We've already concluded that you're River Song incarnate, so the outfit is just all the better! I'm so excited to see that leather holster, too! Girrrrrl, you look like such a Grade A bad ass! Haha, does it still count as cosplaying if you're pretty much the exact same person as the character you're dressing up as?" Day. Made.

Date: 2011-04-08 08:59 pm (UTC)So glad you had a great time today! I desperately wish I could go Monday, but unfortunately I have a job that hates me. Since you're going to be seeing the premiere eps, if you want to nix the premiere party on the 23rd I totally understand. Just let me know!
