I haven't been to a comic con in frigging YEARS.  I was actually iffy about going today, but finally said screw it and Rivered up - and so very glad I did.

Same old hotel that has been hosting these things for the past 25 years.  Even the remodeling didn't take away the massive deja vu...all of a sudden I was 17 again, and waiting in line to meet some cast member from Star Trek: TNG.  Same old merch, same old types of faces, same old banter.  The lack of Doctor Who costume types was deplorable, apart from me and [livejournal.com profile] screamingdolai , I happened upon one Amy Pond, but that was it.  I didn't think you were even allowed to HAVE sci-fi events without the one obligatory guy dressed as Tom Baker.  No Doctors at all.  Sad.  Also sad was the fact that my swanky boots still have not arrived, but I was resplendent in the AllSaints dress and belt, and last night I jury-rigged not only her other belt with the pouches etc (sewed some brown ultrasuede around an old black belt, and used my old Bald Mt pouch and Capricorn baldric, perfect size to hold my sonic screwdriver, which is an 11 screwdriver because River's is STILL on backorder and WTF, Entertainment Earth??), but a terribly cool watch I made which works VERY well as a time-displacement wristband thingie.  That one I think I shall put up on craftytardis, it's fun and those things are impossible to find.

A lot of people recognised US and were always appreciative - especially this one woman dressed as Supergirl (good boots) who spotted me first, squealed, and then squealed more at the sight of Donna Noble.  Some guy recognised us from fair, and I bumped into a guy I went to college with, this couple I knew from Xena Night, and developed a new artist crush - her website is www.sararichard.com, and you should go swoon over her pretty pictures.  I bought Gracie a yellow Angry Bird, to go with her red one.  The best part of the day was Timony-company.  I hadn't seen most of them in ages, and K and I got to have a proper catch-up (and a LOVELY moscat, the name of which I should've written down).  P appropriated my TARDIS journal, got on a roll, and drew portraits of like 5 of the Doctors in it, B gave me an adorable Harry Potter print he had done that I had been making AW noises over, and D said I looked 10 years younger than when she'd seen me last (I credited the Kiehl's and the blond streaks, she suggested lack of stress).  I hope to see a great deal more of these wonderful people in future.

While I was off doing this, Gracie and my mother were having an adventure.  Their relationship has evolved into something quite charming and wonderful, and Gracie is always well-behaved for my mother, and babysitting for her has turned into something fun for both of them.  Apparently a bunch of Mom's friends were meeting up in a park today to collectively go for a walk, and after getting volunteers of help from a few of them, Mom decided to take Gracie with them.  No stroller or anything, for a walk of about 2 miles.  Mom said Gracie had a wonderful time, listened really well, and particularly bonded with one friend of Mom's who used to teach special ed (btw, as I type this, she is doing naked ballet in front of an episode of Spongebob. Let your imagination soar).  The day before this, Mom and I took her to camp for the day, and she was mostly good there too - wonderful in the car, and at camp, well, she is used to running around and not using her newer big-girl behaviour, and we will work on that.  Situational regression isn't a surprising thing at any age - look at any college student when they come home for the hols.  I'm not worried - the school will help me and D set a schedule for her with her PECS things, and with a little practise, she'll be fine.

A good day.  I needed one.
