a summer post, finally
Jul. 14th, 2011 07:34 pm Just haven't gotten around to it plus my laptop broke and won't be fixed til next week (my brother hooked me up with a loaner), and now we're almost 1/3 of the way through the summer. It is flying by. Fight class is fun, possibly the best fight I've ever choreographed, and I'm doing a scene from the Firefly episode "Our Mrs Reynolds" with this guy Diego, one of my very favourite campers, who I hadn't even known was coming as staff until I got there. Yoga is always happy, and I have discovered the joys of the pool - it is only 5 feet deep, so I have been walking laps, which is doing wonderful things for my whole body if I ignore the soreness. I'm also committed to getting something of a tan this summer. I get a lot of compliments on my obnoxiously loud bikini, and Gracie loves it when I go in the pool with her.
Enough about me. Gracie is having a wonderful time and doing brilliantly. Everyone who sees her raves about how much progress she has made. She is getting along great with Drew. We tried doing the day camping thing with her, going to classes - but there aren't any performance or dance classes young enough for her yet, and her favourite thing is the pool - so she swims most of the day, which she is doing without a floaty vest or anything. So, weather permitting, it's pool, lunch, pool. On random occasions she visits the horses and rides, or goes to art, cooking, or circus. No tantrums about leaving anywhere, and I can actually bring her to the dining room - we get there early and leave quickly, but still. Huge improvement over previous years. She will talk to people who talk to her, with real conversations. She has finally warmed to Evan (my friend who lives next door). This weekend i'm going to take her to her first show (lower camp production of Mulan) and see how that goes. The other night, Evan had a barbecue on his porch, and Gracie was an adorable and fun party guest, and didn't need to be yelled at more than your average 6-year-old. We have been reading more, and new things, and her latest game to play with Drew is School, which takes place on the porch, and Drew is the teacher. On rare occasions, I get to be guest teacher. When we take her to town or the store she is usually very good - the supermarket in town has these kid-sized shopping carts, and boy does she love them. My friend who teaches pop-up-book-making made her a pop-up book called "Gracie And The Doctor'. Pictures of it to be posted soon.
