Movie date!

deadlightsgirlTook kiddo to see Lion King. It was going to be a gamble - her first movie theatre trip, and her longest
sitting for a film. Plus, Lion King has some scary bits and some upsetting bits, and I wasn't sure how she'd deal. We went to the mall and caught a show that was not only early, but not 3D, and thus virtually empty, which was good. We bought popcorn and soda, and as the previews started, she turned to me and said, "Mama, I love you!"
She started to get fidgety about half an hour in, distracted by the video games in the lobby (she doesn't play them, she just plays with them), but it wasn't too bad. Mufasa's death did upset her, but she sat on my lap, and Disney cleverly put Hakuna Matata right after, which quickly cheered her up and made her literally dance in the aisle, which, due to the emptiness of the theatre, was not disruptive. As the movie wound down, the fidgety increased, but I was able to wrangle her without too much trouble. Overall, I'd say it was a good first movie experience, and we both look forward to going to see Puss In Boots and the new Muppet thing.
It makes me happy to take her to special and fun things, and I think it is important that I do - I'm her everyday, there's nothing special about Mama, I'm her constant, so I think it's good that she can associate special occasion things with me too. Besides, I loved Lion King, and I loved sharing it with her, and I love that the work she and I and the school have been doing is working, and that I am getting more able to take her places. It's a step by step thing, and I don't push her beyond what I think she is ready for, but everyone agrees that my instincts have been good. My best girl. Love her so.
