Super Cat!
Mar. 28th, 2009 09:57 am What was in the air yesterday? I don't think any of us were at risk to accidentally become Reavers or anything, but something was vibey in the best way yesterday, apparently
harpiegirl had a similarly awesome and productive day. The minute Gracie got on to the bus I was off and running. I straightened my geek room (that's where the craft stuff etc lives, it tends to get cluttered) so I could walk in there again. Then into the car, remembering to bring with me some clothes for the Salvation Army bin that I had been meaning to take out for ages. Drop them off, reward myself with a soy latte for lunch, post office, buy stamps, check Happy PO Box (send in your donation #2 if you're playing this month!), go to Tuesday Morning and root through the Barbies to find the lone Bert they had to go with Mary Poppins (I friggin love that store, I also got Gracie this adorable ballerina dress because it was cheap and there), and also some sport thongs for her for Florida. Quick stop home, grab the iPod, and head out for an hour walk, which was all cheerful and springy and joyous and put me in the head for the next bit - beginning to clean out our storage room when I got home. It has been floor to ceiling with nameless crap for ages and I can't take it any more, plus we have to bring a bunch of Gracie's old stuff to camp to dump on give to a co-worker who just had a baby and lives in Belgium, so I can save her the trouble of having to shlepp oceans of necessities from another country. And it gets things out of my house! Everybody wins!
I had meant to only take stock, but soon I was moving things and bringing things outside to await the "throwing out big things" pickup day. I also reorganised some of the downstairs playroom and tossed some useless and broken furniture. By the time the bus brought the kiddo home, I had made a nice dent toward spring cleaning. The whole house needs a sweep, a dust, and a vacuum, and Rob needs to go through the storage room when he is here, but we are on our way. Our wee house has been feeling small and crowded to me of late (not surprising, small person takes up a lot of space. Gracie too. See, it's funny cause my husband's short...never mind.
screamingdolai thought it too), and a good cleaning/clean-out will help, and we have been needing one anyway. And it keeps me busy while Gracie is at school, and then I don't sit around and eat. Diet-wise, I was super good for the first time in a while, in fact I think I underate, but whatever. I hadn't taken my dexedrine for the time I was trying to not be sick, and then being back on it gave me insomnia for a few nights, but last night I remembered to take ativan early and got to bed before midnight. And Gracie stayed in her own bed all night, so I got (imagine) eight hours in my own bed with no one but the kitty! The down side of husband being away 4 nights most weeks is that he is cozier than kitty, but the up side is that should Gracie come get in bed with me midway through the night, odds of us both getting to go back to sleep are better if she isn't squished...besides, I think she is still apt to get possessive over mommy and mommy's bed.
Speaking of mommy, she has been calling me that lately(!), which I credit the Wonder Pets Save The Panda and the stuffed panda Auntie Kerry gave her with. She sees the panda on the tv, she has one of her own to relate to, and then she relates me to the Mama Panda. Whatever works. When we went in Monday for our meeting with her school shrink, I ducked out early to meet her at her classroom. She responded when we called her, and when she was me, she broke out in a huge smile, said "Mommy!", ran over, and gave me a big hug and a kiss. *melt* More importantly, progress, but...melt.
Back to yesterday, when she got home from school, I gave her the Bert doll. She recognised him right away. In the past when you gave her a gift, she would just take it and run away. This time, she put Bert down, came over, and gave me a big hug and kiss, and when I reminded her of the words (she has been seeing things on Noggin about manners), said "thank you". For those interested, Facebook has finally succumbed to the demand for more Gracie (she IS cowbell) and now has an app where you can make a profile for your baby. Come look at Gracie's...http://apps.facebook.com/babbook/profile.php?id=100829. Friend her! She updates regularly! Screw you, MySpace!
The Mary Poppins and Bert Barbies are holding up pretty well, though Gracie is very lucky she has a mama who is willing and able to repair them and make them a bit more Gracie-proof. It is kind of a challenge for me as a crafter...that is how I am choosing to look at it, as that makes it much less frustrating.
Now, Muppets. Later, playground (walk included), and then sushi with mommy and sister at some point this evening. No plans tomorrow though, in case someone wants to make us an offer!
