mmmm, Shadow
Nov. 5th, 2009 02:34 pm FINALLY got out to ride today. Jeanne, bless her heart, welcomed me with not only the usual open arms and coffee, but half a Xanax, which I have to report is much quicker-acting and effective than ativan, and I think I will be switching scrips next time I need a refill.
Prescriptions aside, it is just amazing how your troubles can just be galloped away from on the back of your trusty steed. We took the hill trail that we haven't taken in ages -- the one where Shadow gets to gallop all these hills. HUGE fun for me (and her) and very good for her back. Also less time slogging through mud.
The only thing missing was the wind in my hair, but that's only because I had my usual hat on. She was so happy to be out there, I could tell, and I felt a oneness with her that I hadn't felt in a while, mostly because I think the other trail makes her nervous. It's all ditches and high grasses, and nowhere to really run. Today there were a bunch of stretches of ground where I could really let her go. She loves running, and there was no hesitation in my seat finding itself, and even when she tripped mid-canter the one time, she stayed up and so did I. Thank you, Shadow, thank you Jeanne, thank you Gracie for letting me get vague sleep so I could drag myself out there, thank you Xanax for easing the Angst which occasionally threatens to overwhelm, thank you Epona for the nice weather and glorious ride. Horsie therapy simply ROCKS.
