Here's a story about a friend of mine who I always think is awesome, but occasionally things come up of which one must take special notice, even amid the general awesomeness.
I'll give the readers' digest version so as not to give away anything -- I saw this person a few days ago, and she was scheduled that day to do something stressful, something for which she had spent a long time preparing, and the stakes were high with this for something very important to her.
Her sister owns a bakery, and occasionally she brings goodies. I had made a crack WEEKS ago about hey, whynt'chu bring pumpkin yummies with you next time? You know what? She did. In the midst of her own worries about work, this stressful thing, and life in general, she was selfless enough to go to the trouble to step outside her own needs and do something nice for others, and remembered to do it without having to be reminded or anything.
May seem like a very minor thing, but to me, it's little things like that which shine in a dark world. It also bears mentioning that it was a pumpkin cream cheese roll, and it was REALLY fucken good.
The end.
