that was a close one
Mar. 16th, 2010 09:07 pm We all know about Gracie's sleeping habits the past coupla days. In an effort to tire her the fuck out (they let her sleep at school for 2 gorram hours, crap), I kept her out most of the afternoon, shooting up right after she got home.
That was a mistake. The pain from the shots kicked in just as we were leaving the playground, and the walk home was quite sucky indeed. Fortunately, the first thing I did once we got home was scarf a whole ativan and a super-advil, and the combo has kicked in quickly, so now I am just normal achy instead of torture achy, and a little loopy, probably enough to affect my typing and little else. I still gave her a bath while at the same time putting up the shiny new shower curtain I bought today (the same as before, clear plastic with pockets to hold stuff), and I remade her bed with the new pink jersey twin sheets I also bought today. The past two days, since I have had to go back to bed right after she leaves, the last coupla hours before she gets home during which I am awake get spent doing things - yesterday it was the post office, today it was Bed Bath & Beyond and Shop-Rite. Tomorrow's shot day comfort meal will be the porterhouse steak from Costco, it is the size of your head. I figure it will be nibbled all day.
Tomorrow I will tell you about Gracie on the playground - it wasn't that she was being particularly awesome, in fact she was quite the terror, tantruming when she couldn't steal other childrens' toys - it was a couple of other, slightly older little girls who were the awesome. One of them had a small doll Gracie wanted and cried when she couldn't have it, and when this little girl's friend saw Gracie crying, she went over to Gracie and tried to engage her by taking her hand and giving her a hug, to make her feel better. Then, the little girl with the doll came over to Gracie, told her the doll's name was Ariana, and then handed her to Gracie. Gracie was overjoyed and said thank you with very little prompting, and actually, after playing with it for a while, was content to give Ariana back to her owner in the end. I told both little girls that they were very nice people, and I found and told their mommies as well.
Guess I won't tell you that story tomorrow, guess it wanted to be told today. I found it heartwarming to see how some kids can be so sweet to each other, when others can be such snots. I also chit-chatted with a couple of local moms, one of whom I gave my number to for playdates, since her little girl is Gracie's age and we often pass their house when we go out walking.
