good girl, good day
Mar. 29th, 2010 10:28 pm Thanks to the combo of NyQuil and luck with the kiddo, I have actually slept well the past two nights, so even though rain usually makes me achy and emo, I felt pretty good and didn't want to bail on Gracie's dentist appointment despite the rain. I had been worried mostly about the ride there and back, since she is Miss Fidgety in the car, and I didn't want to deal with that on 17A, especially in the rain. Julie was supposed to come as wingman, but she does worse in the rain than I do and wasn't feeling up to it. I decided to go anyway. I had taken the car in to get the CD player fixed so we could play her music in the car, and it really helped, but honestly, even before I put it on, she was an angel. Both trips. I also gave her calms forte before the trip, which has been helping at night too.
At the dentist, well, it was a new experience. She had been an hour in the car, and was a little too feisty to be cooperative. The good news was that we got the form we needed for school, and the dentist did manage to see that she has all the teeth she is supposed to have and everything looks fine until her next checkup, by which time she might be better with the sitting still.
Once we got home, the awesome continued. Apart from a couple of unauthorised trips to the backyard which were quickly thwarted by me (especially the Bart Simpson-inspired naked one), she was tantrum-free and into listening and helpful all afternoon and evening. She accidentally spilled her juice, she said "oh no, my spill!", didn't freak, and when I told her to run and get some paper towels, she did just that, and helped clean it up. Honestly, there aren't words for it - as challenging as she is, this is the most glorious little girl I could have ever hoped for. She is clever and fun and funny and this bouncing ball of sheer joy. I'm so thankful for her, the light of my life -- especially now.
