Yesterday after school she threw one of her Special Tantrums, but that was relatively early, and I must have done something right in dealing with it because she was fine the rest of the night (like, reasonable, responding to reason, which is a new thing for a not-so-verbal kid).  She helped me shoot up at 6:30 (she counts and kisses the boo-boo, in case you forgot), went to bed with no trouble, and while she did come into bed with me, it was without a peep and she went right back to sleep.  This morning she was fine getting off to school, I went back to bed, and while I woke up with a sinus headache, it is gone now without having to resort to the migraine meds.  Rob showed up just before the school bus did, and played with her, and took her to Gymboree in my car at 5.  All good things.  He has a computer with a camera now, so thanks to skype, he and Gracie had a video chat the other day, which seemed to make her giggly.  She is so used to the fact that Daddy doesn't live here, it is really a little sad.

So, Tiger Schulmann kickboxing.  I will take the other class I paid for plus try and get a private lesson with a bow staff (they don't have classes, but I was told they could probably arrange me a private lesson so I could see what stick work is like from the non-fake side), but I don't think I'll join or anything.  The Club KO classes are actually better for me overall, though each had their good bits and less good bits.  Examples:

I hate the Tiger heavybags.  They are those portable ones that stand alone anywhere and you have to have a partner with whom you take turns holding the bag while the other hits it.  This would have been okay because I did find the "okay, your turn" thing a good way to catch my breath, but holding the bag for my partner kept jarring me and my body didn't like that much.

I did learn some neat things about kicking that stage combat doesn't  teach you, like how the leg is supposed to be bent a bit when you are roundhouse kicking someone, not extended in order to cast the energy out.  I dug it when I got the hang of it.  My punching was praised.

The biggest thing for me was the balancing.  Because they are teaching martial arts, you are a righty, that is your right hand, that is the hand you always lead with.  I kept thinking, but don't we want my other side to get worked out too?  I mean, it was, but differently.  KO makes a point of having you do the same work on both sides, which the yogi in me appreciates.  Club KO might actually get some business because of me, some guy in the class wanted to know where else I trained and I told him, and he wanted to know what it was like and if it would kick his ass more.  I told him honestly that I thought it really might, and he wrote down the info.

Besides, Tiger Schulmann's doesn't have the lovely teaching/company of the glorious [livejournal.com profile] ladyjoust , who always makes any trip to Warwick worthwhile even when she doesn't bring me yummy things.
