Or find new ways to be dorky on Twitter.
Through totally random IMDB browsing, I discovered that yesterday was the 10-year-anniversary of the Xena series finale. This provided amusing and appropriate Cordelia tweetage, but also got me all nostalgic for the good old Xena days (and my good YOUNG tummy which meant I looked bitchen in my BGSB - I will get that again, dammit). Previous Twitter browsing had shown me there is a whole Xena crew out there, but only one, and not only were they just roleplayers (not working on a timeline. Online RPing is all good, but not what I'm interested in, I like using the medium to actually tell organised stories), and moreover, none of them had posed anything in over a year. So I gave a call to a friend who has just enthusiastically joined the Angel gang and is a Xena fan as well, and the upshot is that once she gets back from her summer thing at which she will have limited computer access, we will be starting our first episode. We're doing backstory posts now. We also have a Callisto lined up (someone I also happen to know, but not from the Angel crew) who had been posting as Callisto for a while just for funzies but loves the idea of tweeting the series and will jump into our timeline, tweeting her own separate stuff until the characters come together at the end of S1.
Unlike BTVS or Angel, Xena is mostly episodic and not serialized, so while there are other main characters, they can't be counted on to be in every episode, but anyone is welcome to join and write their own story until the timeline takes them into ours.
A friend of mine I hadn't seen since high school is in LA as an entertainment type, and he is a huge advocate of the internet as a medium of entertainment (right now he's working on something with the guy who build the Blair Witch website). It's dorky, but if nothing else, it's a way I get to be creative, entertaining, and entertained. And sorting this out and getting started got me out of my funk yesterday, and that alone is plenty. And it will be nice going back to revisit Gabrielle in my head, and a new challenge to write her, since she's so different from everyone else I write. And dorky. Never forget dorky. :)
