quick before bed
Jun. 30th, 2010 10:43 pm First day of class tomorrow, but I actually did some fighting today. Felt good. My assistant all summer will be one of my favourite guys from here ever, so yay that.
The main thing is Gracie - I swear the progress is happening by leaps and bounds. Like, noticeable improvements within a day. New vocabulary, and new interest in vocabulary - she now asks me what the words for different things are, and remembers them and uses them. She is getting along great with K and they had a fine morning mostly around fine arts with Gracie doing work of her own and looking at other peoples'. Today for the first time, she answered correctly how old she would be - and when I asked if she knew what tomorrow is, she said "birthday party!" She is much more with the actual communicating and not as parroty. Still a handful, but SUCH progress. She helps put stuff away when we go shopping now, and we have hooked up a small TV and DVD player in her room so she can watch videos on her own, and it is great. She has also given up the pacifier without a hitch, and the hair-pulling along with it - while she still wants me to lie with her while she falls asleep, now she doesn't reach for my hair nor needs to hold it at all, which is a wonderful thing. Don't know what it is about being here, the change in environment (with still the comfort of Mama), or whatever, but it's really snowballing. We were able to go to the diner in town with her today with minimal fuss.
Here's a nice thing about Gracie - I never trained her to automatically say "I love you" to people, not even to me. But every now and again she comes out with it on her own, and you know she means it. She said it to me when we were in the pool yesterday, unprompted. It never fails to make me giddy.
