Might as well catch you up.  Gracie has been (bad) up since 5.  However (good) she has been playing nicely in her room with what have turned out to be her favourite birthday presents so far - 5 small stuffed toys I got her at the supermarket on a whim, all characters from tv shows she likes.  Go figure.  Unfortunately she is loud with her nice play, even with the door to her room shut, and my sleep up here has been sort of iffy anyway, I think from the non-pillow-toppy mattress I sleep on...clearly I am a Real Princess.  I hope K is able to sleep through the Gracie party and can take her out later, or else that Gracie decides to go back to sleep on her own since she will need a nap today.  Whatever, we'll work it out.  We have been doing fine.

We've been in program for 2 days now.  My yoga class is huge, my two fight classes are small, but that's okay.  There will be enough pairs for a good show, the 2 classes are divided up nicely ability-wise, and everyone is pretty much cool and enthusiastic.  I think C will work out well as my sub - now I just have to finagle babysitting for the days I'm here. [livejournal.com profile] 4evernight , [livejournal.com profile] sweet_luluberry , think you got a weekend or two in you?  The actual you/Gracie alone time is only a coupla hours, the rest of the time you'd be helping me wrangle.  We'll talk.

Gracie's birthday is FINALLY over, and was a very happy one indeed.  She got a pink Barbie bicycle with training wheels from Grandpa Adventure (this is what she has named my dad) along with a kite and some new art supplies, and a helmet from [livejournal.com profile] directorbeth  (a princess helmet. It comes with knee pads. Adorable).  A few of my vet fighters organised singing to her in the dining room (she got a little shy and dealt with it by trying to tongue-kiss me the whole time - better than biting, which she has NOT tried again), and Grandma Nana and Grandpa Adventure threw her a small cake-and-ice cream party in their house.  She has been swimming and riding every day.  She knows the name of her horse (Scottie) and talks to him (she mostly calls him "Brown Horse", which he certainly is).  She has ridden both in the ring AND on the trail, led by a lovely horseback staff member who is excited to plan a leadline course for them to do in the horse show at the end of the session...hopefully I will figure out what is wrong with my camera by then.  She and K go to fine arts every day and do well, and I have actually had a picture drawn for me once or twice.  K is getting more and more confident and good at her job, and Gracie likes her and plays with her and seems to deem her an acceptable cuddle substitute if she gets to missing me and I'm not there.

I am astounded every day at the progress Gracie is making here.  We keep to a routine which makes her comfortable, and she hasn't been missing her pacifier nor comfort-pulled my hair once.  She is talking more, and even asking me the names of things and remembering them (also the names of people, and using them).  She still tantrums when she doesn't get her way, but it is possible to explain things to her where it wasn't before.  Yesterday she was riding her horse in the ring and we wanted her to get down while he was led outside in case he spazzed walking through the gate.  She was perfectly content to get down and then get up again.  She also let us know when she was done, that she had to pee, and has given a few unprompted and appropriate thank-yous here and there.  Right now she is watching the TV in her room and playing with some of her new art stuff.  I won't make K get up before 7:30 (my rule, I don't make anyone else deal with my kid's weird hours.  7:30 is when camp gets up, so that's the earliest I wake her) and depending on how Gracie and I are doing, I may let her sleep a little longer, and then she can take Gracie out while I go back to sleep for a bit.  Since it's not just me and Gracie on our own this shot day (not for a few days yet), I will be able to take an Ambien and catch up on some sleep...I don't take it at home in case of nighttime kookiness or in case Gracie wakes up at a weird hour and I am too zonked to deal.

Still have to get the car brought in now that we are in program and the auditions craziness is over.  I think I will wait til after the 4th to have Dad bring it in, since it doesn't look like anyone will give me a golf cart and I don't want to be without wheels to get into and out of camp, especially since it is going to get hot again this weekend (yay for pool time, boo for the rest of us).

We're having fun.  Wish we could be here more of the summer, but being home will mean better sleep for me (also kickboxing class), school with swimming for her, and we'll still get in camp, especially since she has been being so good in the car.  Ups and downs to be sure, but good summer so far.
