more Gracie squee
Sep. 2nd, 2010 06:28 pmMaybe she's happy to be home, maybe it's a growth spurt, whatever. But she has been amazing this week! I had been really stressing these two weeks between camp and school (especially with this heat wave), and really, she has been terrific. New exciting things to be proud of every day. More words, more conversation, more interaction. Today alone needed to be shared -
I forgot to get a couple of things when we went food shopping today, so we went out again. Once we got into the car, Gracie decided she wanted to go to the playground near us, the one with the dinosaur and the chicken she likes to ride, and the slides. She must've forgotten the word for "playground", so she DESCRIBED it. "Mama? Slide! Dinosaur! Chicken." I said, you want to go to the playground with the slide and the dinosaur and the chicken? She said "playground!" and once reminded of the word, used it from then on. I said Absolutely, Miss Using-Your-Words, and we went there and she had fun. While there, she asked for both Dunkin Donuts and a bagel, two stops we often make when we go to this playground with the stroller. We didn't have the stroller, but I thought, screw it - and we walked calmly to the Dunkin Donuts (she held my hand), where she waited for her munchkins, said thank you, and then SAT and ate them while I got myself a Coolatta (mixed coffee and vanilla bean, ecstasy). Yes, she danced around a bunch, but wasn't disruptive, and left holding my hand when I told her it was time to go. THEN, we walked all the way to the bagel place (maybe 4 blocks in the opposite direction), and again, I was able to buy her a bagel without chasing or stress - just your average 5-year-old "put that down"s and "I see that"s. She held my hand all the way back to the car, and THEN we finally went to the supermarket, where she continued her streak of awesome with sitting still and listening. There have also been some wonderfully wonderful cuddles, and a hugely LESS amount of yelling or "go to your room"s. Yesterday she said Mama, play with me! I said, what do you want to play? She said, Fly like a bird! I asked what colour bird. She thought about it and said, Black bird! So she ran and flapped while I sang her the song about blackbirds.
This is so much fun.
